The voice of Dr Connie Mulder carried the "samesang" at a Day of the Vow gathering at Groote Schuur Estate, Cape Town. This apartheid-era public holiday commemorated a victory over the Zulus under the leadership of Dingaan, and the anniversary and its commemoration were intimately connected with various streams of Afrikaner nationalism. The holiday was also known as Dingaan's Day and was declared a religious public holiday under the Nationalist government.
