Subject
District Six (Cape Town, South Africa), Western Cape (South Africa), Apartheid, Forced removals (South Africa), Religion, South Africa. Group Areas Act, 1950
Description
Top: St Mark's Anglican Church stands steadfast on the hill in District Six. A symbol of tradition for some, the church was once called the "Cathedral of District Six" and the "small Vatican", and still holds High Mass three times a month. Here, the congregation streams down the hill after a Sunday morning service. Many once lived in the now bare land of District Six.
