Description
-
Mass Meeting - Part of the audience of more than 1 000 who packed the Athlone Civic Centre last night to hear Durban-based Islamic "scholar" Mr Ahmed Deedat, right, expound on why "The Satanic Verses" author Salman Rushdie should be "killed, slain, slaughtered and executed". Mr Deedat, head of the Islamic Propagation Centre International, also said that Christians who criticised calls for Rushdie's death were "hypocrites" with a faith that was "garbage". Mr Deedat, whose topic was "Should Rushdie Die? What is the Judeo-Christian Verdict?", said Islam demanded that blasphemers be "put on crosses to die a slow death" or that they "have their hands and feet chopped off".
