Description

Support for Ikeys: Stellenbosch - eleven students of the University of Stellenbosch yesterday sat at the flagpole in front of the university's administration building - in cold and rain - to show solidarity with students of the University of Cape Town. Their lunch-hour sit-in lasted from 1 pm until 2 pm. The South African flag fluttered above. From the men's residence Wilgenhof, opposite, howls and jeers were hurled across the demonstrating students. Neither police nor university officials intervened. Several university officials stood on the steps of the administration building. Mr Louis van Schaik, one of the demonstrators, said last night that they staged the sit-in to express their solidarity with the Ikeys. The Maties taking part (seen in the photograph) were Mr Van Schaik, Miss Patricia Wrankmore, Mr F.S. Palm, Mr Brian Ginsberg, Mr Roy Williams, Miss Lezel Naude, Mr High Gordon, Mr Roy Gorden, Mr David Bensusan, Mr William Curry and Mr A. Kulenkampff.

End Conscription at Clifton Beach, Cape Town

-
Description
-
Residents at Clifton's Second Beach found their usually idyllic and panoramic sea views "politicized" on Sunday morning. Because of its size, the graffito was hard to ignore. The regional chairman of the End Conscription Campaign, Mr Nic Borain, said that though his organization was no responsible, he was pleased to see "creative ways" of voicing opposition to the South African Defence Force's presence in the townships - specially when other forms of expression had been outlawed.
