A familiar Observatory landmark will come crashing down next week when explosives experts demolish the Rochester Brickworks smoke stacks - and the public will be able to watch the spectacular job. The twin towers - which soar to 50m, dominating Observatory from the brickworks site next to Groote Schuur Hospital - will be demolished by an American company which will dynamite the smoke stacks in a controlled operation next Saturday to make way for extensions to the hospital.
