Description

The view of Cape Town, looking in a south-easterly direction, is another of the series taken by The Argus photographer from the top of recently completed 300ft. chimney at the Dock-Road power station. In the centre of the picture are the railway motor transport sheds and marshalling yards, and to the right of them monument station, the goods yards and part of the main station. The Grand Boulevard, which is planned as the main road link with the southern suburbs, will join Adderley Street at the extreme left of the picture, and where the fun fair appears in the photograph, the 1,000,000 Van Riebeeck Hotel will be built.

Description
-
This unusual aerial view of Cape Town has all the boldness, optimism and excitement of the New Year. The great vista stretching over the Cape Flats towards Hottentots Holland to symbolize the future. Indeed it is in this direction that much of the Peninsula's expansion is taking place. But Table Mountain is still dominant and timeless, defying any further encroachment up its slopes. The picture was taken at a height of 4,500 ft. The four famous beaches of Clifton are easily recognized at the bottom on the left. Bottom right is Camps Bay, some of whose residents might even be able to point out their own houses. Voortrekker Road (top left) through Kensington, Goodwood, Parow and Bellville, is clearly visible, so are the two cooling towers of the Athlone power station, with Langa just beyond them.

Description
-
An impressive photograph of the new heart of Cape Town, by A. J. Musgrave-Newton. It shows the dynamic growth that is taking place on and near the Foreshore. The two new Mobil and Trust Bank "Towers" can be easily recognized. What is not easily apparent is that this is Cape Town. Cars crowd the open spaces like so many beans in rows.
