Tangled wreckage of one coach is seen from under another rearing into the air. / Driver Injured: The conductor of the Langa train, Mr R.J. van Wyk, said after the accident that the driver of the electric unit, a Mr Cilliers, jumped clear when he saw the other train come round the bend from Pinelands leading into Rapenburg Station. Mr Cilliers was not injured. The driver of the other train, believed to be a Mr Vsagie. received head injuries in the smash. [...] Mr Stephen Mngadi, whose legs were injured in the accident, said "I was on my way to work. We were sitting in the train expecting nothing. I do not know what happened. The next thing I remember, I was lying with my feet caught under the seat, which was cracked and broken. "People were thrown all over the place" Smashed Coach: Four adults and three children were killed when the wooden second-class coach of a train from Langa telescoped into the steel driving unit after a head-on collision on the Langa line early today.
